Funny Words

I love words.

Especially funny ones.

Studies on humor tell us there are a variety of reasons why things are funny. For words, having an abundance of similar sounds within it (assonance) or the drumming sound of repetitive hard letters that roll through the word (consonance) can render the word funny.

Then again, maybe the word just tickles you for your own personal reasons.

My favorite funny word is Kerfuffle - which, defined, is a fuss or disturbance.

What's your favorite funny word?

That is a funny word.

I don't know what my favorite funny word is. Pretty much everything that comes out of my mouth is funny, (ha), especially when I'm teaching aerobics and I say something that makes NO sense whatsoever. I do like the word "squish" though. Kerplunk is a good one too.

Funny story. I thought that I had "made up" the word Megalopolis. Then Jim hears me saying it and says they talked about those in class that day.. LOL. It's a real word, but it makes me giggle.. and I did not "invent" it I guess ;) haha!
I like your word, I will have to try to put it to use.. Maybe "Wow, wasn't that quite the kerfuffle over there?!" :) Have a great night, thanks for the smile!

I like saying onomatopoeia (sometimes spelled onomatopœia). It is a word that sounds like it is defined. I don't use it often, but I love the word.

I like the word APPY, which is my husbands broken english for HAPPY, so when he says, "APPY BERTDAY", it makes me laugh.

Discombobulated. I taught this word to some teens and for three months they (all 20) used it with every sentence. Drove me crazy! I laugh thinking about that!

Kerfuffle! I love it. I've included it as one of the sayings my little gang of kids use on my site (http://www.myshrink.com ).

Words like these bring a whole lot of meaning in one word, kinda like a picture has a thousand words.

Thanks for your blog Dr. Deb, I always enjoy reading it.

Hi I just discovered your blog and wanted to show my respect for trauma therapists. There are not enough of you! It took me a very long time to find my trauma therapist but now that I have, it has changed my life! Peace and blessings!
