Brain activity surfing the net
Scientists at the UCLA Semel Institute Memory & Aging Center have found that using the Internet increases neural activity in the brain - and triggers key centers in control decision-making and complex reasoning. The findings demonstrate that a good surf through the net may improve brain function.
I'd write more, but me and my big brain are gonna go surfing now...

My brain must be freaking awesome then!! ;)
I think so! I always come up with new ideas for art I would like to create when I'm surfing the net!
Pretty soon, I will need a larger skull :)
Palmtree,
I bet it is!
Lone,
I love surfing. If I had to choose one thing on a deserted island, it would be my laptop (oh and wifi)
OHN,
A bigger skull. Now that's great!
Oh good. I have another reason for wasting my free time surfing on the net ;)
Donna
LOL,I always knew this internet thing was a good idea!
Probably not, dr. Deb, but it sounds good to say. :)
Why Deb, I feel better about myself aleady, and much smarter.
All I can say to this article is WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO! :) No, really it is great news that one of my most loved (and cheapest) passtimes is good for at least stimulating lots-o my brain :)
PS.
Haven't heard the official news, but from what I am hearing unofficially, all passengers on the plane that went into the Hudson are ok. Great news after a very scary incident!!!
Have a great (and hopefully warm) day!!
Angel
If this is true, my brain is next in line for a Nobel Prize. Can't get me enough web surfing.
I love surfing the net. Glad to hear it's good for me.
Did they speak of internet addiction? I often wonder if I'm starting to develop a "fix"...
Lit up like a Christmas tree! I wonder if it has anything to do with the intake of colors as opposed to monochromatic features of a book.
I knew it! Now I have proof :)
YAY! I'm gonna be a genius in about 30 minutes!

Scientists know they research everything. My brain must be buzzing all over the place with all the time I am surfing.
My son finally started reading once he started surfing the net. Brought him from 2 years behind to up-to-speed.
yeh i reckon the net rocks albeit me brain aint awesome but my fingers at typin an spellin mus be ok cause i get there in the end.
Isn't it wonderful that we know so much more about the brain, and that knowledge is growing all the time? What a marvelous organ!
Still and all, I must say that being absent from blog world for a few months has also made me wonder and think. Do we really need that stimulation all the time?
My life recently should have been scanned - now that would be interesting!
I like this, and my sons are going to like it even better. OOPS! You said surfing, not online gaming. :)
oh geez. don't get me started on this issue. lol
same sh*t, different day. you know my pitch about media and culture.

jenji
That's exciting!
Justification for blogging!
:)
Sorry I haven't visited in awhile, but I've been dealing with the death of one of my cyber friends. She committed suicide on Christmas Eve. She was only 42. It bothers me a great deal on many levels. She wrote a post on the day she took her life. I would be very interested in hearing about the topic of suicide. Especially the signs, and prevention. I hope that you consider it.
Thanks!
~Awake
Awake,
That is so sad......I have written about suicide many times here. Just do a topic search. I wish you strength as you heal.
I love surfing the net, I work in a call centre and its a great way to spend the time when its quiet! and now its benefiting my brian too!
Great for the mind... somewhat straining on the eyes :) Happy New Year DD!
Thanks Deb! This just makes me less guilty for spending all that time surfing the net; it's worthwhile after all!
But who says it is better than reading? How is brain activity while watching TV?
Love surfin the net. You can control what you watch. Cool post.
