Blog Your Way To Health

Menshealth is reporting that blogging is a good way to be healthy. They cite a 2007 study from the Journal of Research in Personality by Harrist, Carboni & McGovern that found health benefits in participants who wrote about life goals and daily events. Essentially, those who outwardly expressed feelings and emotions had fewer illness-related trips to the doctor than those who did not.

The December issue of Self Magazine is also highlighting the health benefits of blogging. Dr. Michael Breus, who penned a book called "Beauty Sleep", told Self that "Blogging about your feelings can bring on relaxation, which helps usher in sleep."

Makes sense to me. I can see blogging as a form of therapy.

What about you?

I find blogging very therapeutic. I just wish I hadn't deleted my 3.5 year old blog. It was always nice to reflect and see a pattern.

I love it. I've now got the two, one the fun side. The other the more serious side. I find that just helps get it all out. Venting I think is very good for a person. Especially, if a person isn't one to do speak their mind.

I'm with you all the way Deb. Blogging is a great way to start processing things, educate yourself and meet new and interesting people> All things that promote self growth and lower stress :-)

I think all of the deleted posts talk too....

Blogging had definately helped my mental health!

Blogging is definitely therapeutic and as Jade says, a great means of education and meeting other folks.

I rather enjoy going to look back at my earlier posts and see my journey with a bit of perspective. And I have to admit to enjoying watching other bloggers grow at the same time.

Yes, I think it IS good therapy. Just like most creative outlets can be. I mostly just have fun with my blog, but I've used it to vent about several things. Which has been better than carrying those topics around in my head for days!

Part of blogging is part of writing therapy. Writing is one of the best *natural* therapy there is.

Blogging has always helped me that is why at one time I had five blogs at once, but now I am down to three :)

blogging for us is a relief because for so long we wrote in a diary then someone would come along and destroy the diaries now for some reason the blog remains the same as two years ago and for us its a place we cna feel we can share without having to worry.
And even better we have made great friends from it

Blogging is indeed theraputic!

But nothing beats a kind word or human touch.

Definitely, that's what I use my blog for.

I think blogging makes you think about things that you wouldn't usually think about in everyday life. Perhaps this is better for our health in the long run because it keeps our brains active.

In my opinion, blogging is great for emotional health. Because we can let out all our thoughts and feelings in a post, even if it is only very subtle.

Works for me. Seriously, it does. As I journal on virtually a daily basis in any case, the blog just adds a bit of creative exploration to my feelings in general.

Yep. I can see the benefit. On my blog I can write what I feel WHEN I'm feelilng it. That really helps when you feel differently about things than many around you.

I think blogging is sometimes like "free therapy." It's really been an active part of my recovery for me this past year.

I absolutely do!

I've always found that writing helps me make sense of what I'm feeling. It disciplines my brain a bit. I went weeks without blogging, and I think it affected me pretty badly. Tonight I started out trying to be lighthearted and ended up with something very different than I'd originally planned. There are other times when I think I'm being trivial and find that I've really touched someone else emotionally. Times like that, I'm especially glad that I blog.

And I'm so glad you do, too! :-)

Absolutely! It is very therapeutic for me.

Definitely. Blogging is a combination of writing and communicating. You can put your thoughts into words without pressure and share them with others for feedback.

Oh for sure!
There were times when writing on
my blog actually helped me decide
what I was going to do about situations or problems I was having. I guess I was thinking/writing out loud.
