I am all for mental awareness days, but because of the society we live in should these days not run for 365 days of the year.

Self injury is something that I see every day where I work. We always try to keep it from happening, but it is not always possible. It is so sad when you see a little one clawing at his legs until they bleed, in a fit of anger,or pulling out their hair, biting themselves until they bleed.

Here is another "year of..." -- just heard that Feb. 29th (of Leap Year) is now year of the Frog; because so many species of Frogs are becoming extinct.

I did not know that Saturday was self injury awareness. It is not promoted here at all which is very disappointing!

Does national sleep awareness week mean I can just sleep right through it??????

At times, I wish I was more in tune with my own mental health.....

It is nice to have a regular Mental Health Awareness Day to remind us all of the debilitating effects of mental health problems to many sectors of our society. Thanks for the post. God bless you and your loved ones always.

Thank you for reminding me of the awareness days for the month!

I think it's great that we have awareness days, but I wish we could all talk about mental health more often, not just on "special" days.

Something I've become very aware of these last few months is the mental toll my extended work hours are taking! Depression, memory loss, confusion...

Shifting my hours on the weekends and off days isn't helping, either!

Looking forward to a "saner" schedule soon!

Dear Anon,
Every day should be an awareness day, you are right.

Dear Kath,
You see alot of that in your work. And it is very difficult to bear witness to.

Dear Beach,
Cool!

Dear Dawn,
It is a great organization.

Dear Lone,
Yup. I am gonna take part and snooze as much as I can.

Dear Dis,
Sadly, that can be true. The awareness is heightened from media etc, but once the spotlight is gone, only those who live it continue to be aware of it. The hope is that somehow, an awareness day can educate.

Dear Dreaming,
So great that you did that.

Dear Traci,
I know. You have been going thru so much.

Dear Dragon,
I didn't know if was a year of the Frog. So makes sense.

Dear Awake,
Yup, Me too.

Dear S'Onnie,
I read that you guys in NZ and Oz are part of the awareness day.

Dear Alison,
I can't link you back into my pal list either. Blogger is on the fritz again.

Dear Fallen,
I read about this last week. Isn't it wonderful!! Thanks for thinking of me with it.

Dear Mary,
Abosultely. If you need a note, go to the nearest Sleepy's.

Dear Mel,
Every day one should be aware of things ;)

Dear Sierra,
Many agree with you on that. Including me.

Dear Alan,
Lately you have been going through so much!!! It's hard, I know!

Thank you for telling about these!

Insomnia is a demon I constantly struggle with, and my father had *lots* of problems with gambling. (It's the reason we lived in a camper--like, the kind for a weekend--for two years, on a campground, and I couldn't tell anyone in my elementary school where I lived.) I now tell L'Ailee that if she thinks I'm going crazy with lottery tickets--I never spend more than $5, if that, in a week, but I worry--she is to tell me. So I think I'll put up a banner and see what else I can do for that one.

Dr. Deb,
Thought your readers may be interested in a mental health campaign I'm helping to start called everyminute.org that is fighting stigma in trying to organize a grassroots lobbying force to secure more research funding. We just launched our website last week at http://www.everyminute.org Please check it out if it sounds interesting to you. Thanks!

Dr. Deb, as we focus on awareness it is sad and instructive to think of how mental illness continues to be dealt with in many areas of the world. I just returned from visiting a mental asylum in southwest Belarus. It was a chilling experience. Here is a post about my visit:
