Like a fresh piece of paper, it is clean, blank and there for the creating.
I'm not one to make resolutions or promises as the clock freshly ticks in. I know that they are hard to keep. In the past, my New Year's Resolutions began with gusto, but often lost steam. Then feelings of guilt and loss of self esteem surged.
Yuck.
So... I don't partake in the ritualistic, traditional resolution theme. Instead I take the beginning of the New Year to make realsolutions - realistic goals that I can "try" to attain. Here are mine:
Eat healthy.
Move my body.
Keep life simple.
Pay it forward.
Love openly.
Forgive often.
Appreciate beauty.
They are do-able. And if I falter, my sense of sense doesn't crumble. I can pick myself up and strive to achieve them again.
Happy 2008!

Realsolutions - i love that!
Those are great goals! Now, go out there and create!! :D
Happy New Year! http://tinyurl.com/ysfxpo
That's pretty cool. I like the bowl of soup--how did you do that?
Happy New Year to you and yours!
I like the idea of real solutions, I think I'll try some too. My main goals are to quit smoking (I'm going to keep at this one until I succeed), get more exercise and to be more open to meeting new people.

Why did you call one of your labels on your post "eating disorders?"
Just being nosey.
D
Those all work for me, dear Dr. Deb, especially 'keep life simple.' Actually, Wendy and I both said last night, independent of each other, that we had vowed to keep life simple.
Have a wonderful year my cherished friend.
Dear Casdok,
Do-able things. It's the only way to go.
Dear Lone,
Will try :)
Dear Dr. A.
Happy 2008 Dr. A.
Dear SCott,
Go to "The Generator Blog". There are TONS of fun things to use.
Dear Paul,
Smoking is so hard. The chemical addiction velcros itslef to the body. I wish you nothing but good things, my friend. Now go kick some butts. (Pun intended)
Dear Anon,
Whoops, typo. Took care of it. Hmmm...maybe a Freudian slip?
Dear Ian,
The KISS method is useful in life.
Keep
It
Sweetly
Simple
Realistically coined Deb; wouldn't mind using the same list myself!
Happy New Year!
The bit about how the resolutions affect self esteem is particularly true!
HAPPY NEW YEAR Dr Deb, i love these realsolutions also.
Love your list...so realistic :)
Here's to a good year for all of us!
I like the brevity of your Realsolutions. Very clever.
hmmmmmmmm...
My analyst says I am impatient with others at times because my logic is so clear to me and my frustration is because they can't see the logic.
My resolution is to not let my intelligence get in the way of my ability to control my frustration.
I need to be more patient with others no matter what the excuses are.
Nobody likes a smart ass. (Can I say that here?)
Happy and Healthy New Year Dr D.
I hope you enjoyed your time away.
I love the RealSolutions goals. The list is great and like you said if you falter...try try again.
Love the idea and will make a list of my own. Thanks for sharing
hey Deb!
It's nice to see you back.. I agree with you, resolutions can have the opposite effect.
I am happy to see you back, and hope your holiday was scrumtptious
Excellent resolutions, Dr. Deb! Today I am reminded of how beautiful bloggers are. :-)
That's pretty much what I do too:)
Happy New Year!
Hi Dr. Deb,
Yes, I agree with you. They are do-ables. It makes sense to make easier goals for the new year than setting ideal goals that are hard to keep. Very practical indeed. Thanks for the practical post. God bless. Have a nice and peaceful day always.
Fantastic list!
Happy '08 to everyone.
Dr. G
I LOVE your resolutions! Happy New year to you Dr Deb! :)
As you saw I made some resolutions and I never ever do. I did it to see if I attain them and will be interesting to follow up on next year. I didn't give them much thought though. Well a few I did. Also...not sure if redecorating the bedroom qualifies as one. Ha ha!
Thanks for the interesting posts! :)
Great post - I decided not to make any new years resolutions because I was tired of not meeting them!
I hope you have a fantastic 2008
Happy New Years! May this year bring you and yours many blessings.
Thank you so much for the logic and sense you bring to this chaotic world!
My heart would love to hug you for this post, along with so many since we met!
alan
Happy New Year.
I'm working on having perfect posture! :) I started before NY's though. I'm not big into the whole NY Res. thing either. Actually, I think NY eve is stupid. I was in bed by 10! :)
I kept my resolution last year which was - "Be kind to trees." This year I bought a live Christmas tree, and planted 6 more in my yard. For this year, I haven't had much time to think about a resolution. Spending too much time trying to end the war, and restore prosperity and freedom to the world.
It's all in a days work!
I'm not a great believer in resolutions... never could keep them past the first day... ;o)
My only resolution from year to year is to live life to the fullest right now and yes apply KISS as much as possible.
KISS often appears on my blackboard when we are doing projects in school, makes for less stress for the kids.
You inspired my post yesterday, although probably not in the way you'd expect.
I had a lot of fun with the generator blog.
Happy New Year!
Deb!
Did I mention that Erlbaun's new book is genius?
Did you read girlbomb?
I just bought it.. Do read Have You Found Her. It comes out soon..
Take care of you
WOw...best resolution list I've seen yet.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Dear Id,
Having good self esteem is so important in life.
Dear Heiress,
Me too :)
Dear Donna,
I try to make goals realistic. Otherwise they become negative things for me.
Dear TIV,
Short and simple is good by me!
Dear Intelligent,
I have a dear friend whose brilliance sometimes is a stumbling block. SO, I kiinda know what you mean. But, I like a smart ass - especially if wit comes with the package.
Dear Nancy,
Thank you. Hope this year finds you feeling better.
Dear Kath,
Lotsa scrumptiousness was had by all. Hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year too.
Dear CArrie,
I like to appreciate beauty in all kinds of ways. The sun rise. The laughter of a child. The beauty the beams from a couple in love. Stuff like that.
Dear Ms L.
We think alike!
Dear Mel,
Blessings to you and your family too.
Dear Dr. G,
I hope it's a year of change and peace for us all.
Dear Seaspray,
I like to aim for things I can do. If they are too big, I break them down into smaller pieces. THat's the key to achieving goals, I think.
Dear S'Onnie,
Yup, I know what you mean!!!
Dear Mysti,
My sentiments are the same for you.
Dear Palmtree,
I had to fight to stay awake, lol! We don't make much of a big thing for New YEars - so I guess it makes the experience easier to move through. I'd have to say that most years, I am asleep before the year begins!
Dear GW,
What a FANTASTIC idea. Love it. And love you!
Dear BB,
I learned the KISS method when I was student teaching. So I'm not surprised that it's a mantra for you guys. It is a great way to approach life.
Dear AMI,
Isn't it a fun place. Try Imagechef too. I think you can do things there as well.
Dear KAth,
No haven't read Girlbomb. So glad you enjoyed the other book. I'll put them on my list
Dear Miranda,
Hey thanks!
~Deb

This is a girls dream ... that one day eating disorders will be no more.
these are great ones and you are right- they are doable. Hope your new year is coming in with much positiveness and additional career success.
I agree with you on New Year's resolutions. Politicians urk me with their resolutions to set policy for hospitals. Politician wants to fine hospitals if patients contract infections during treatments
A leading U.K. politician wants the government to fine hospitals for each patient who contracts an infection during their stay. In a speech, David Cameron, a member of Parliament, said English hospitals should lose part of their yearly government payment for each patient if that person contracted MRSA, or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or another infection, Clostridium difficile, according to a report by the BBC.
